Crochet Diwali Light


Materials
Fingering Yarn
Size 3.5mm hook
Battery-operated tea light

I used the Diwali Tea Light Diya by Pan Perkins, and made some changes to accommodate my yarn.


Abbreviation
CH Chain
SC Single Crochet
HDC Half Double Crochet
DC Double Crochet
SLST Slip Stitch
BLO Back Loops Only
* A * × B Repeat “A” for a number of B times



Tea light Cover
1 CH 5, SLST to form a ring.
Ensure bulb of tea light fits into ring. Adjust chain as needed.
HDC × 8 in ring, SLST to first stitch.

HDC INC × 8,
SLST to first stitch.

3 CH 1,
*HDC, INC* × 8,
SLST to first stitch.

4 CH 1,
SC in BLO of each stitch,
SLST to first stitch

5~6 CH 1,
SC in each stitch,
Increase rows required to cover height of tealight.
SLST to first stitch

6 Fit work onto tea light before proceeding.
CH 1,
SC in BLO of each stitch,
SLST to first stitch

7 CH 1,

Cut yarn and finish off.




Petals - may be done in a single color or change every layer.
1 SC to any front loops of the tea light's Round 6.
CH 3
*Skip 2 stitches, SC, CH 3* around.
SLST to first SC.
8 loops
2 CH 1,
*SC, HDC, 2 DC, HDC, SC* × 8,
SLST to first stitch.
Cut yarn and finish off.
8 petals

Because I had one more increase round for the tea light, I skipped one more stitch for each repeat for Round 1 of the petals.
In the next round, I picked up the 2 skipped stitches together to "centre" the stitch.


1 SC to any skipped stitches of petal's Round 1.
CH 4
*SC in next skipped stitches, CH 4* around.
SLST to first SC.
8 loops
2 CH 1,
*SC, HDC, 3 DC, HDC, SC* × 8,
SLST to first stitch.
Cut yarn and finish off.
8 petals
