I made this lotus flower with Buddhism in mind, on why lotus is often used to represent it.
In Mandarin, we often hear 出淤泥而不染,濯清涟而不妖. It describes the lotus flower rising without a speck of dirt above the mud water where they're usually rooted. The purity does not symbolize naiveness but more so of staying untainted in the abominable environment one is in.
